Biological measuring procedures to determine and assess effects of air pollutants on plants (bioindication) - Procedure for standardised exposure of curly kale

inactive
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 December 2008
Status: inactive
Page Count: 31
ICS Code (Ambient atmospheres): 13.040.20
scope:

The goal of standardised curly kale exposure is to identify accumulation of persistent organic substances in plants as an effect of pollution, to determine the extent of pollution, and to utilise the results as a basis for assessing the threat to animals and humans (bioindication). Experience and reference values are so far available for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD), and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDF) [3; 4; 12; 18; 22].

The present guideline standardises the individual procedural steps which, along with the level of pollution, can also influence the results of a pollutant study on kale (Brassica oleracea var. acephala).
