This guideline applies to secondary copper smelters producing electrolytic copper and other products from copper-bearing secondary raw materials (see Section 3.1) and raw copper. It does not apply to plants in which copper cathodes are melted and processed further to produce semi-finished products, nor to plants manufacturing copper alloys. These processes are covered by guideline VDI 2102 Part 2.

Reference is made to the laws, ordinances, administrative and other regulations applicable to the construction and operation of the plants covered by this guideline [G1 to G26].

Unless expressly stated otherwise, all gas volumes indicated in this guideline relate to standard temperature and pressure conditions (273,15 K; 1013 hPa) after deduction of the water vapour content.
