The procedure described subsequently involves the filtration of suspensions forming a cake on a filter medium. In particular, this procedure is applicable to suspensions with more than 0,5 % by volume of solids having a size of less than about 0,2 mm. These applications become difficult when the deposition velocity of the particles is elevated, in these cases the filter cake forms prematurely and often also separations occur. Furthermore, the agglomeration tendency of the finest particles could also affect the measurements.
