Purpose and scope of application

The present guideline describes procedures for testing tooth contact patterns on gearings (cylindrical gears, bevel gears, worms and worm gears).

It is applicable to

• the testing of tooth contact patterns without load by means of printing techniques

• the testing of tooth contact patterns with load by means of abrasive techniques

• the determination of tooth contact patterns by computation

The assessment is made on the basis of the position, form, size and intensity of the tooth contact pattern by comparison with references or regulations. The tests are carried out in the mounted state in the gearing or in test facilities.

It is the purpose of this guideline to use uniform procedures in the preparation and performance of the tooth contact pattern tests with a view to ensuring comparable and reproducible statements.
