This standard provides information about the qualifications applicable to a Competent Person tasked with conducting inspections of stationary or movable centrifuges and related equipment in accordance with DIN EN 12547, within the meaning of the German Workplace Safety and Health Ordinance (BetrSichV).

This standard applies to centrifuges or related equipment which are stationary, mobile or movable and intended to be used for separating liquids and/or solids. These are, for example:

• batch centrifuges
• continuous centrifuges
• discontinuous centrifuges
• pusher centrifuges
• peeler centrifuges
• decanter centrifuges
• screen bowl decanter centrifuges
• conical plate centrifuges
• filter centrifuges with a conical bowl
• multichamber centrifuge
• cake-drying centrifuge
• ultracentrifuges
• washing centrifuges

This standard does not cover the inspection of:

• centrifuges with a kinetic rotational energy of less than 200 J
• centrifuges intended by the manufacturer for household use
• centrifuges designated by the manufacturer as laboratory centrifuges in accordance with DIN EN 61010-2 including Annex 1
• entrifuges intended by the manufacturer to be used for shaping material, such as, for example, centrifugal casting machines
• centrifuges classed by DIN EN 12505 as food processing machines
• centrifuges for fissionable, radioactive material 
• manual operated centrifuges

The qualification of employees of an approved inspection centre (Zugelassene Überwachungsstelle or ZÜS) is not covered.
