scope:

This standard defines the terms used in VDI/ VDE 3699 Part 2 through Part 6 to

• facilitate the understanding of the specifications made in the series of standards,

• form a basis for an understanding between experts by

− harmonising terms and

− defining the meanings of terms, and

• establish relations between the concepts by cross-referencing, thus creating a consistent framework of concepts in the field of process control using display screens.

This series of standards VDI/VDE 3699 is valid for process control with screens in chemical and petrochemical processing plants, in plants for steam generation, as well as in process plants in metallurgy, provided that no special regulations are to be observed for these plants or plant sections, e.g. for nuclear-powered plants.
