Introduction
The REWIMET-A model^) is a three-layer mesoscale model for applications in regions of horizontal extent from 20 to 200 km and a horizontal resolution of 2 to 10 km.
The model calculates the horizontal wind compo¬ nents {u and v) and potential temperature (0) as a time-dependent layer mean above each grid mesh. The depth of the mixed layer {h^^) is being determined prognostically, the vertical wind speed (w) and the Exner function diagnostically.
The model is driven by imposing the large-scale (supra- scale) temperature profile, the large-scale (suprascale) horizontal pressure gradient (geostrophic wind) and surface temperature. Geostrophic wind and surface temperature may be imposed as a func¬ tion of time. The geostrophic wind may depend on height.
The model takes into account topography (orography and land use) in terms of inhomogeneous height of terrain, roughness and surface temperature. The topography can be read in via a land data base.
