This guideline describes the basic conditions for the determination of the uncertainty of measurements taken on CMMs by means of simulation taking into account measuring instrument, measuring object, measurement task, measurement strategy and ambient conditions. The guideline aims at harmonising the basic procedure without narrowing down the options for technical realisation. Measures allowing to make the procedure more transparent to the user are recommended, and ways for the user to verify the procedure are described.

This guideline does not intend to define new characteristics for a general assessment of the accuracy of measurement of CMMs. The CMM is assumed to be operative. Conformance with the specifications is checked on the basis of VDI/VDE 2617 Part 1 to Part 6 and the series of standards DIN EN ISO 10360.
