| ICS Code (Structures of buildings in general): | 91.080.01 |
scope:
The series of standards VDI 2038 is concerned with loads which are time-dependent and thus can lead to vibrations in structures and thereby cause problems in buildings, components, machines and equipment or result in annoyance to individuals, either directly or - in the case of individuals and items of equipment - indirectly via emitted secondary airborne sound. However only those loads relevant to serviceability are treated explicitly. Demarcations with respect to neighbouring subject areas will be found in VDI 2038 Part 1. Part 2, as a continuation of Part 1, examines all questions of serviceability as regards shock and vibration. The present part of the standard deals with the airborne sound emitted by vibrating structural parts, that is, so-called secondary airborne sound. It explains the physical phenomena and describes methods for its prognosis, measurement, evaluation and reduction.
Note: For subordinate aspects which go beyond the remit of this standard a selected bibliography is provided.
