Analysis and planning of factory areas - Fundamentals, application and examples

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 August 2010
Status: active
Page Count: 31
ICS Code (Company organization and management in general): 03.100.01
scope:

One key activity in requirement-oriented planning of industrial layouts and material flow is the analysis and dimensioning of surface areas. Besides the calculation of areas for newly planned projects, the examination of existing areas must also be possible, particularly when products or structures change.

The issue of the actual planning of layout and material flow as an inseparable combination is not dealt with here because reference works already exist [1; 5].

The following guidelines are recommended:

VDI 2498 Procedure in material flow planning (in German only)

VDI 2689 Manual of material flow investigations (in German only)

This guideline describes an integrated floor area planning process under consideration of operational requirements. The starting point is always the product program as a characteristic determining factor for the respective plant and floor area structures. Expressed in simple terms, this means the interlinking of the following parameters with the aid of suitable planning aids:

  • program
  • floor areas
  • hours
  • personnel
  • costs/means used

The term "turnover" is deliberately omitted here due to the value adjustment problems. A connection can, however, easily be made on the basis of the derived manufacturing hours.
