The standard also presents substance flows and inplant measures for avoiding and reducing emissions. It provides a technical overview and serves as a working aid to public authorities, associations, designers of plants and the enterprises concerned. It in-dicates bandwidths of emissions and outlines the legal basics. Measures for production-integrated environmental production are presented in the light of the legal, economic and operational framework of BImSchG (Federal Immission Control Act).

The standard covers all the process stages from the delivery of the green coffee to the packaging of the roast or ground coffee. The production of instant coffee does not fall within the scope of this standard.
