Noise control in heating systems

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 November 2011
Status: active
Page Count: 41
ICS Code (Noise emitted by machines and equipment): 17.140.20
ICS Code (Central heating systems): 91.140.10
scope:

This guideline applies only to heating systems with oil- and gas-fired heat generators with fan burners and their exhaust systems which have to fulfil certain acoustic requirements. It also applies analogously to exhaust systems located outside buildings.

Note 1: Air-conditioning systems are not dealt with in this guideline; for these systems see VDI 2081.

Note 2: Attic central heating systems are not dealt with in this guideline due to their complex acoustic problems with structure-borne sound. It is advisable to contact a specialist in such cases.

The purpose of this guideline is to provide guidance for

  • constructiona noise control,
  • the requirements regarding noise emission,
  • the installation of the heat generator in the heat generator room,
  • the exhaust gas pipe,
  • the expected sound emission at the chimney outlet and
  • highlighting measures for noise reduction to be recommended in the planning and realisation of heating systems.
