This VDI Standard applies to all laboratories operating in Germany that perform olfactometric measurements in accordance with DIN EN 13725. It supplements and lends precision to the standard DIN EN 13725 and describes farther-reaching requirements in the practical application of the standard in areas where this is considered necessary for the quality of the measurement results. At the same time, it also permits a uniform and comprehensible check of laboratory competence.
Laboratories notified and accredited in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 must satisfy the criteria given in DIN EN 13725, the standard VDI 3880 and in this VDI Standard. In particular, the criteria for the application of the yes/no method used exclusively in Germany in olfactometry are fleshed out further and defined more precisely.
In addition, this standard contains quality assurance requirements of significance for olfactometric measurements. It not only makes a point of giving testable accreditation preconditions, but also describes those quality-assuring working methods that, on the basis of current knowledge, contribute to widespread recognition of the findings among experts and authorities.
The standard is intended to ensure the uniform application of DIN EN 13725 both in the performance of measurements and in notification and accreditation proceedings.
Section 4 of this standard proposes supplementary methods and gives instructions that cannot be directly assigned to any of the sections of DIN EN 13725 or refer to several different sections.
Section 5 of this standard contains additions to and elucidations of certain sections of DIN EN 13725.
Annex A contains checklists for equipment to ensure a uniform check of completeness.
