Measurement of particulate matter in ambient air - Methods for characterizing test aerosols - Determination of the particle number concentration and particle size distribution - Condensation Particle Counter (CPC)

inactive
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 February 2008
Status: inactive
Page Count: 24
ICS Code (Ambient atmospheres): 13.040.20
scope:

This guideline reviews the measurement of the particle number concentration in ambient air with Condensation Particle Counters and describes the principle on which the method is based. It defines the specific requirements for the method and its performance characteristics arising from the measurement task. This method is also suitable for characterizing test aerosols.

Depending on the design of the Condensation Particle Counter, it is possible to measure particles ranging in size from about 0,003 μm (3 nm) to 5 μm and number concentrations ranging from a few particles per cubic metre to 1013 m-3 (107 cm-3).
