General
The following guideline describes methods with the aid of which the locations for departments or machinery of a Company can be determined in terms of the most favourable flow of materials (layout planning). Locations are "favourable" when they ensure
- low transport costs
- a low degree of capital tie-up due to means of transport
- a maximum degree of flexibility and transparency.
The methods described here are part of the larger framework of logistic planning which attempts to achieve optimum Organisation of the production process with a view to ensuring
- Short throughput times
- high availability of stock for delivery and
- low stocks.
