Scope of the Guideline

The Guideline applies to Performance tests on mechanically driven ("mechanical") compressors of all types. It does not apply to fans [2] and high-vacuum pumps, or to jet-type compressors with no moving drive components.

Displacement compressors comprise compressors in which the gas conveyed - which is also to be understood in the following to signify a vapour or a gas/ vapour mixture - is drawn in by means of the enlargement of a Chamber, compressed and discharged into the delivery line by means of the reduction of the volume of such Chamber.

Turbo-compressors comprise machines in which inlet, compression and discharge are continuous flow processes. The gas is conveyed and compressed in vaned impellers and decelerated with a further increase in pressure in fixed vaned or vaneless stators.
