Purpose of the Guideline

Because of the need to protect man and the environ¬ ment from harmful environmental effects and be¬ cause of the fmite nature of energy resources, it is important to use energy efficiently. In many sectors, there is considerable potential for and means of employing energy even more efficiently and with lower impact on the environment. To this end, it is important to consider methods of efficient energy use, such as the combined generation of power and heat and the exploitation of waste heat, as well as the changeover to other energy sources and to compare them in terms of energy input and emissions. These investigations should be carried out by specially qualified experts generally known as "energy Consultants".

The present Guideline VDI 3922 gives companies and Consultants a guiding framework for the procedure and content of such an energy consultation with reference to the relevant guidelines and regulations (see References).
