Guideline VDI 4201 Part 1 specifies general performance criteria on a digital interface for data exchange between automated measuring and electronic data evaluation systems for monitoring emissions. The subsequent parts of this guideline specify the specific requirements for the realization of a digital interface on the basis of a specific profile or a specific specification. The general and the specific performance criteria apply to performance tests of automated measuring and electronic data evaluation systems equipped with digital interfaces.

The series of guidelines VDI 4201 meets the requirements of the Uniform Practice in Monitoring Emissions (Bundeseinheitliche Praxis bei der Überwachung der Emissionen) and of DIN EN 15267-3 with respect to a complete description of the digital interface in the relevant standards and guidelines.
