Supplementing this, the special features found in the combined transportation chain of road - rail - sea are described in what follows. The information given relates to stresses arising during transportation, requirements applicable to large load units and securing cargo in large load units, as they are specified by VDI 2700, the CTU packing guidelines and the UIC (Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer). Further details regarding the securing of loads may be found in the current, relevant loading regulations and requirements of the particular carriers involved in the transportation.
To avoid the need for the complications of resecuring the load before transfer to another carrier, the person responsible for securing loads is advised to find out whether combined transport is envisaged and if so, in what form.
