This standard serves to provide assistance in the selection of a suitable actuating principle and applies to the determination of the actuating force which pneumatic, electric or electrohydraulic actuators should deliver. All of the requirements for good control will be met on the actuator side when every position is arrived at with the precision and in the time which a stable control loop demands.

If manufacturer information is available, preference should be given to this over the calculation method presented here which has been kept general.

This standard does not cover control valves with exclusively manual actuation or actuators which are a fixed component of the valve structure.
