Purpose and scope of application

The purpose of this guideline is to define the requirements applicable to the design, planning and construction of measuring rooms, to define the individual project steps and to create clear demarcations between the individual project work phases. This should make collaboration between owner, planners and builders easier due to unambiguously defined criteria.

The framework laid down by this guideline can be expanded or cut back on a project-specific basis.

This guideline is valid in conjunction with Part 1 for the purpose of defining requirements applicable to measuring rooms. Due to the special industrial importance of the physical quantity of length, the questions and information are weighted in favour of measuring rooms specializing in length measurement. Notwithstanding this, the information provided in this guideline has been kept general enough to allow it to also be used as an orientational guide for setting up measuring rooms for other physical quantities.
