scope:
The application of state flow graphs allows optimization of computer-based numerical analyses. Furthermore, their application expands the calculation and makes it less complicated in cases where an analytic procedure is preferred. The graphic method is based on linear flow graph theory, which is applied to linear networks in many areas of technology. It is related to the Graphical Evaluation and Review Technique (GERT).
A state flow graph is derived from the diagrams used in state analysis. In this case, probabilities are assigned to the transitions and state nodes. Together with the connection rules for flow graphs, this results in a mathematically complete description of the state change model. As in other graphic methods for reliability analysis, it is therefore also possible in state analysis to quantify the relevant reliability parameters directly based on the structure of the graphic model.
The application of graphic methods offers the following advantages:
the ability to model complex systems and modules in their entirety
The calculation methods are clear and easy to understand.
It is easy to trace the influence of individual parameters.
the ability to simplify the model and introduce approximations
