Recycling of electrical and electronical equipment - Re-use

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 December 2014
Status: active
Page Count: 67
ICS Code (Recycling): 13.030.50
scope:

In contrast with recycling, re-use refers mainly to conserving and restoring the product's function, with the objective of finding renewed use for used products and those taken out of operation.

Due to the different interpretations one may encounter, this standard distinguishes between re-use I and re-use II:

  • Re-use I: Re-use is defined in the German Waste Management Act (KrWG) as any process in which products or components not constituting waste, are used again for the same purpose for which they were intended originally.
  • Re-use II: In contrast, "preparing for re-use" means any recycling process that involves testing, cleaning or repair, in which products or components of products that have become waste are so prepared that without further pre-treatment, they can be used again for the same purpose for which they were intended originally.
