This guideline applies to the planning and installation of central HVAC systems in which the components (e. g. induction units) are connected to a central AHU by an air duct system. Advice will be given for the technical specifications, the arrangement, and the design of structural elements of HVAC systems.

This guideline formulates fundamental requirements for all central HVAC systems. Depending upon the use of a building, additional demands, which are not dealt with in this guideline, may also exist.

Decentral, façade-oriented systems will be discussed in the guideline VDI 6035.
