scope:
This series of standards VDI/VDE 3699 is valid for process control with screens in chemical and petrochemical processing plants, in plants for steam generation, as well as in process engineering plants in metallurgy, provided that no special regulations are to be observed for these plants or plant sections, e.g. for nuclear powered plants.
This standard is to specify regulations and give recommendations regarding interaction procedures in process control systems. Applying these recommendations results in interaction procedures which are
- in accordance with current standards and
- which are based on ergonomic findings.
Thorough application of the recommendations leads to uniform user interfaces across different control workstations, offering the following advantages:
- the planning and design of process control systems becomes easier (no need to consider recurring specifications in new projects)
- uniform interaction procedures for process control make it easier to employ operators for different systems, e.g. in different control rooms
Interaction procedures, operation modes, and interaction devices are described. Interaction procedure here means the manner of operating the system. The operation modes depend on the purpose of operating. The term interaction de-vices subsumes real (hardware) keyboards and control actuators as well as input facilities using virtual keyboards.
The present standard part applies in the context of interaction procedures and interaction devices.
