scope:
This standard presents biomimetic methods that can be used in the design and development of architectural structures, in civil engineering projects, and in products.
It deals especially with biomimetic development and design strategies for the civil engineering and architectural design disciplines as well as for industrial designers working in industry.
It points out various work methods that describe how the biomimetic work process can be applied to find solutions to specific problems and how it can be used in an open-ended design process.
The standard contains numerous definitions of terms examines the goals of biomimetics in the fields of architecture, civil engineering, and industrial design as well as the opportunities it offers in these fields. Biomimetic solutions in these fields must always be viewed as a balance between design and function. The standards VDI 6221 Part 1, VDI 6223 Part 1, and VDI 6224 Part 2 are closely related to this standard.
