VDI 2038 BLATT 2

Serviceability of structures under dynamic loads - Methods of analysis and evaluation in structural dynamics - Shock and vibration - prognosis, measurement, evaluation and reduction measures

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 January 2013
Status: active
Page Count: 110
ICS Code (Construction industry in general): 91.010.01
ICS Code (Vibrations, shock and vibration measurements): 17.160
ICS Code (Structures of buildings in general): 91.080.01
scope:

The series of guidelines VDI 2038 is concerned with loads which are time-dependent and thus can lead to vibrations in structures and thereby cause problems in buildings, components, machines and equipment or result in annoyance to individuals, either directly or - in the case of individuals and items of equipment - indirectly via emitted secondary airborne sound. However only those loads relevant to serviceability are treated explicitly. Demarcations with respect to neighbouring subject areas will be found in Part 1.

The present part of the guideline, Part 2, as a continuation of Part 1, examines all questions of serviceability as regards shock and vibration. It covers in Section 5 methods of design (analysis, prognosis) and in Section 6 methods of assessing (measuring) the condition of structures. Section 7 summarizes the evaluative criteria for serviceability and Section 8 deals with possible methods of ensuring or improving serviceability.

For subordinate aspects which go beyond the remit of this guideline a selected bibliography is provided.
