scope:
After selection of a PVD or CVD hard coating depending on the application (see VDI 3824 Part 1) and consideration of the requirements to be met by the tool or component to be coated (see VDI 3824, Part 2), further prerequisites to successful quality management in PVD and CVD hard coating are compiled in the present Part 3. These minimum requirements regarding production planning refer to the organization of the Service "coating".
As far as this Service is concerned, the actual coating process is not the only production step to determine the quality. A multitude of procedures and processes Preceding or following the coating process are also decisive
Even if, for instance, a flawless coating has been applied to the tool, this tool may be "unusable" for the customer, e. g. due to a mix-up, coating with an inappropriate layer system, shipping damage, late delivery, improper shipping etc. This listing of negative examples makes it clear why the coater has to rely on a highly organized production process. It will allow him to ensure that the multitude of tools and components supplied by the customers pass the large number of necessary production and inspection steps in the shortest possible time and with reproducible quality.
