Environmental meteorology - Meteorological measurements - Turbulence measurements with sonic anemometers

inactive
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 October 2008
Status: inactive
Page Count: 28
ICS Code (Air quality in general): 13.040.01
ICS Code (Geology. Meteorology. Hydrology): 07.060
scope:

The guideline is used for measuring the wind vector with high temporal resolution and for determining turbulent fluxes. Thus, it shall be applied for measurement tasks to assess the dispersion situation in air pollution control for plants requiring approval according to BImSchG (Federal Immission Control Act) and TA Luft (Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control). Moreover, it shall be used for monitoring nuclear installations (KTA 1508) and for many agro-meteorological, forest meteorological, and general micrometeorological applications. So, ultrasonic anemometers are part of pertinent measuring stations (see VDI 3786 Part 13). Furthermore, sonic anemometers may replace mechanic wind sensors commonly used for determining the mean wind vector (see VDI 3786 Part 2), and they may be used in climate and weather stations in accordance with international standard [2].

Applications where the turbulence spectrum is explicitly required (e. g. dynamic loads on buildings) are not discussed here.
