Introduction

The guideline VDI 2457 provides instructions on measuring the emission concentrations of air-polluting organic components. Part 1 of this guideline deals with the fundamentals of sampling, sample preparation and the chromatographic determination. The following parts describe examples of proven methods, which focus principally on the sampling method and use chromatographic methods for the analytical part.

This part describes sorption in alkaline aqueous solutions with subsequent ion chromatographic analysis, as exemplified by aliphatic mono-carboxylic acids. This method, which can be applied to other substances which can be absorbed in aqueous sorption media, permits compounds to be determined chromatographically directly from the sample solution.

Safety hints: When handling chemicals, the relevant safety provisions must be heeded.
