scope:
Within the framework of this guideline the institutional concept of maintenance refers to that organizational structure within the company which carries out the respective tasks. Maintenance tasks, according to DIN 31 051, comprise all technical and administrative measures that are necessary during the life cycle of the unit under observation in order to maintain or restore its functional condition.
This includes also improvements aiming at enhancing the operational reliability, e. g. by eliminating weaknesses.
Modifications of an object carried out with the aim of enabling it to fulfil a modified function (higher performance, etc.) are not covered by the concept of maintenance.
This guideline is aimed at all internal and external units carrying out maintenance tasks according to the abovementioned DIN 31 051 for technical equipment in production, facility management or other objects. These can be internal company departments (corporate maintenance), external technical service providers, or the service departments of machine, equipment, or component manufacturers.
The units mentioned above may serve internal clients
(e. g. production department) or external clients only
(e. g. profit centres, service providers).
