scope:
This standard provides scientists and engineers a guide to the biomimetic approach as an additional method for solving problems when developing robots.
Classic robotics differentiates between mobile and stationary robots. However, this standard does not make this differentiation because animals, being "mobile" living organisms, generally serve as models. Biological manipulators (the hands and arms of primates, for example) are always multifunctional and are used for locomotion as well as to manipulate objects.
In particular, this standard presents the strengths of biomimetic robotics and some of its limitations.
