scope:
This guideline specifies performance criteria and test procedures for checking compliance with these performance criteria on portable devices for measuring the smoke number at small firing installations according to the Ordinance on Small and Medium Firing Installations (1. BImSchV) or the Order on Sweeping and Checking (KÜO). Furthermore, this guideline specifies the performance criteria on filter media and comparison scales as well as the procedures for checking compliance with these performance criteria.
Section 4 and Section 5 of this guideline apply to all performance tests of measuring devices for the measurement of smoke numbers, which are intended for use at these firing installations. Gas sampling can be carried out with hand or motor pumps. The evaluation of the soot spot takes place by a visual assessment or by a photometer based assessment of the absorbance of the soot spot according to DIN 51402-1.
Section 6 and Section 7 of this guideline apply to performance tests of filter media and comparison scales.
Furthermore, this guideline specifies the requirements on test institutes and explains the declaration of suitable measuring devices.
