scope:
This guideline discusses defects that result from the choice or the use of unsuitable materials or from defective materials.
In this context, plastic, as a material, encompasses all polymers, additives, dyestuffs, pigments, fillers, foreign materials and fibre composites found in the applications under consideration.
The focus will be solely on the suitability of the material; questions related to design and processing will be dealt with in the corresponding parts. In addition to the choice of an unsuitable material, a product can also exhibit defects while in use because of defects that occurred during processing (see also VDI 3822 Part 2.1.2).
