Design and use of die buttons in large stamping dies

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 October 2013
Status: active
Page Count: 19
ICS Code (Forging equipment. Presses. Shears): 25.120.10
scope:

This standard describes two designs of die buttons. Form A headless die buttons and form B headed die buttons.

These two forms differ principally in the method of mounting and installation. Form A headless die buttons can be removed from above without dismantling the button retainer. They are retained in the button retainer by means of a feather key or dowel pin which prevents them from rotating. They are also suitable for direct insertion in the casting.

Form B die buttons can only be replaced by dismantling the button retainer. A flattened face on the head prevents them from rotating.

With both versions particular attention must be paid to the design of clearances, especially in automated production, to facilitate the removal of punching waste.
