scope:

Not only climatology and environmental meteorology, but also agriculture, forestry, water management, energy industry, and transport are especially interested in precipitation data. Furthermore, there are special applications such as

• evaluation of the pathways of pollutants including radioactive substances (e.g. washout and rainout from the atmosphere, large-scale transport, enrichment of soils, water, and plants), and

• assessment of water vapour and heat emissions from cooling towers (frequency and distribution of precipitation).

Because of the importance of spatial and temporal allocation of the measured values and their availability, aspects of data acquisition, data processing and archiving are to be included in the measurement planning.
