Die Schutzkappen dienen insbesondere bei Versand und Lagerung dem Verschluss gegen das Eindringen von Fremdkörpern und dem Schutz des Gewindes und der Anschlussflächen vor Beschädigung.
Diese Norm gilt nicht für Schutzkappen für Rohrleitungsteile mit Flanschanschluss (siehe DIN EN 12351).
