This Standard specifies an atomic absorption spectrometric method for the determination of the nickel content in iron and steel. The method is applicable to nickel contents (mass fraction) of 0.003 % or over up to and including 1.0 %.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 4940: 1985 Steel and iron-Determination of manganese contentFlame atomic absorption spectrometric method (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/ lEe Guide 21-1.
