scope:
This method is a screening test to determine the resistance of wood based materials to decay by selected fungi under controlled laboratory conditions. It can also be used to establish the minimum amount of preservative that is effective in preventing decay of selected species of wood by selected fungi under optimum laboratory conditions. Preservative thresholds obtained using this procedure provide an indication of retentions to be used in above-ground field tests; retentions to include in ground-contact field tests would be greater (e.g., 1.5 - 2.0 times) than those obtained in soil-block tests. This test method is intended to provide information for standardization of protection treatments. It may also be useful as a screening test.
