scope:
This specification defines the fabrication of panels and shapings from acrylic sheet approved to D.T.D. 5592 when used for Class I and Class II applications (Av. P.970 Vol. 1 Chapter 400 2.1.1 and 2.1.2).
Purpose
The purpose of the processes specified herein is to:
(i) minimise the susceptibility to crazing,
(ii) minimise stresses introduced during fabrication and assembly,
(iii) improve dimensional stability, and
(iv) complete the polymerisation of the adhesives or to disperse volatiles arising from bonding processes.
NOTE. Panels and shapings may still craze if misused and the utmost care must be taken to avoid contact with materials known to cause crazing e.g. those quoted in Appendix I of RAE Report Chem 447.
