This specification defines the processes for the preparation and cold rolling of wheel, gear and bearing seats and the turning and cold rolling of stress relieving grooves (if applicable). This specification is for rolling stock whether owned or leased by the Company.
Purpose
The axles presently in use on London Underground rolling stock are cold rolled on their wheel, gear and bearing seats. The benefits of this process are being reevaluated and until this review is completed the axles shall continue to be cold rolled.
