1.1 Purpose The purpose of this standard is to: - describe the context in which the governance of projects, programmes and portfolios is conducted; and - provide guidance on the governance of projects, programmes and portfolios. NOTE Portfolio is used throughout this standard to mean a portfolio of projects and programmes. 1.2 Objective The objective of this standard is to provide guidance for those involved in the governance of projects, programmes and portfolios. 1.3 Target audience The primary audience for this standard comprises governing bodies and executive and senior management who influence, impact or make decisions regarding the governance of projects, programmes and portfolios. This standard is also intended to provide guidance to executives and managers who direct portfolios, programmes and projects, such as sponsors, steering committees and portfolio owners. It also considers project, programme and portfolio managers, as well as stakeholders involved in the implementation of projects, programmes and portfolios. Other audiences who may have an interest in this topic include those advising, informing, assisting or working within projects, programmes and portfolios.
