Purpose and scope
This document will define in general terms the principal activities associated with design assurance, focussing on the specific tasks to be undertaken. The document is provided for guidance only and should be viewed as an "aide memoire" to the practising assurance engineer. It is not exhaustive or intended to replace existing documentation.
The guide will follow the TP146 process stages with emphasis placed on the adoption of a risk based strategy concentrating on key issues or on areas of design that have traditionally caused problems for scheme delivery. Throughout all project stages the assurance engineer is expected to actively engage with the delivery organisations design team to ensure that;
- a mutually agreeable design is tabled at each project stage
- the extent and detail of documentation and drawings meets the requirements of the project stage
- an acceptable design delivery programme is agreed allowing sufficient time for review, agreement and amendment as required
The document is sectionalised for each engineering discipline and for each project stage. A confirm/check approach, against a particular subject area, has been adopted for ease of reading and application
