Optical cables detailed in this specification are for installation by direct burial or laid directly in closed cable trenches. These cables will generally be installed in substation compounds where high induced voltages or rise of earth potential could present a problem if the cables contained metallic components. The cable specified is also suitable for applications other than telecommunications where equipment requires optical connections on a substation site.
