Dieser Teil der IEC 62320 legt die Mindest-Betriebs- und Leistungsanforderungen, Prüfverfahren und geforderte Prüfergebnisse für AIS-Repeaterstationen, kompatibel zu den mit IMO Res. MSC.74 (69), Annex 3, Universal AIS, angenommenen Leistungsstandards, fest. Er beinhaltet die technischen Kennwerte für nicht-schiffsseitige AIS-Geräte für Feststationen nach ITU-R-Empfehlung M.1371 und IALA-Empfehlung A-124. Wo zutreffend, werden auch die ITU-Funkregulierungen mit berücksichtigt. Diese Norm berücksichtigt auch andere zugehörige internationale IEC-Normen sowie existierende nationale Normen.

Diese Norm ist anwendbar für AIS-Repeaterstationen. Sie enthält keine Festlegungen für die Anzeige von AIS-Daten an Land.
