Use/Relationship: The CI Documentation Recommendation details the development of contractor's recommendations for the designation of items as CIs in the contract work breakdown structure and its extensions, as well as the types of configuration documentation to be used to identify the configurations of CIs. The purpose of this data is to facilitate program management by further decomposition of the system architecture into logical components that will enhance systems engineering, integrated logistics support, and configuration management efforts. The data also provides the Government with technical rationale for selection of the most appropriate types(s) of configuration documentation to be used to describe the performance and physical requirements of CIs.

This DID contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data deliverable resulting from the work task described in paragraph 3.2 of EIA-649-1 and the principles of EIA-649.
