scope:
Terms and definitions of Part 1 are illustrated based on examples. Due to the variety of different algorithms and numerous applications an exemplary representation and explanation of the standards is intended here. Therefore, Section 5 illustrates different structures in form of block diagrams. Section 6 demonstrates the handling of the list of characteristic properties for characterisation of various adaptive control methods presented in literature.
Mainly self-tuning at start-up and feedforward adaptation are used in industrial practice.
Adaptive controllers with permanent adaptation have been successfully applied in special cases like e.g. with plants that show distinctive nonlinear characteristics. This has been proved by numerous publications. However, the strategies and concepts of adaptation realised in these cases usually are so specific that they hardly can be transferred to similar problems and therefore would go beyond the scope of this standard.
This part uses the signal notation according to DIN IEC 60050-351. In international publications the controlled variable typically is indicated with y and the manipulated variable is indicated with u.
