Purpose and Scope
This test method provides a means for determining the weather resistance of textile materials.
The test options described below are applicable to fibers, yarns and fabrics and products made therefrom, including coated fabrics, whether natural, colored, finished or unfinished. Test options included are: Option A-Direct Exposure to Natural Light and Weather Option B-Behind Glass Exposure to Natural Light and Weather without Direct Wetting
Outdoor testing as described under this method must be performed to verify accelerated laboratory testing. It is up to interested parties to determine frequency and scope of outdoor testing. Refer to AATCC Test Method (TM) 169, Weather Resistance of Textiles: Xenon Lamp Exposures, and TM186, Weather Resistance: UV Light and Moisture Exposure), for information on the limitations of accelerated laboratory testing.
This test method contains the following sections that assist in the use and implementation of the various options for determining the weather resistance of textiles.
