This instruction applies to all organizations within the Department of the Navy, including foreign military sales.

Purpose.

This instruction promulgates the Department of the Navy (DON) policy regarding the Unique Identification (UID) of tangible items of personal property, equipment, and materiel. This instruction establishes policy and responsibility necessary for implementation and management of Item Unique Identification (IUID) within the Department of the Navy.
