scope:

This Standard specifies cast and pressed housings (hereafter referred to as "housings") used for insert bearings given in JIS B 1558 (hereafter referred to as "bearings").

This Standard is applicable to pillow block housings, flanged housings, take-up housings, and cartridge type housings.

The lubricator (lubrication hole and grease nipple) may be provided in the lubrication zone specified in JIS B 1558 if necessary, and when provided, they should intersect this zone in such a way that lubricant will satisfactorily feed from the housing through this zone. The exact design of the apparatus is not otherwise covered by this Standard.

NOTE 1 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows:

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21.

NOTE 2 The bearings specified in JIS B 1558 and the housings specified in this Standard together comprise the insert bearing units specified in JIS B 1557.
